Plan to Attend a Very Special Celebration to Honor Professor Luciano Minerbi’s 50 Years of Contributions to Hawai'i !
Luciano Minerbi retired as a professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawai'i in December 2018. Professor Minerbi’s contributions to planning, to the University of Hawai'i, to the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, to Hawaiian and other Pacific Island communities are countless.
Professor Minerbi’s body of research has covered sustainable island development in urban and rural settings, land readjustment, watershed and ahupua‘a management, cultural impact assessments, heritage landscape analysis, community planning, and place-based management. His projects have included land use, environmental management, coastal zone management, participatory action research, community-based economic development, participatory rural appraisal, village planning, subsistence practices, responsible eco-cultural tourism, community resilience, behavioral evacuation from natural disasters, and labor force analysis.
All of Professor Minerbi’s educational, research and consulting work and service focused on planning in island settings, and served: local and indigenous non-profit organizations; neighborhood boards and rural councils; cities as well as numerous county, state, federal, and global agencies; and island governments or organizations throughout the Pacific region (Hawai'i, American Samoa, Independent Samoa, Canary Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Timor Leste).
Luciano Minerbi is the recipient of numerous community service awards and local planning recognitions. He served on the State of Hawaii Kahana Valley Living Park Planning Council, on the City and County of Honolulu Commission on Housing and Community Development and on the Neighborhood Board and the Community Center of his McCully- Mo'ili'ili District. Even after retirement, He remains highly engaged. He is currently serving in the Hawaiʻi Advisory Committee of the U.S.D.J. Commission on Civil Rights.
